SRINAGAR: Complete shutdown was observed on Sunday in Inidan-Held Kashmir (IHK),
against the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the territory.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the joint
resistance leadership- comprising of Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Far
ooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik – called for the shutdown.
All shops and other business establish
ments were closed in Srinagar and other district headquarters of the valley. Public transport was also off the roads.
A multi-tier set-up in the name of security was put in place with massive deployment of Indian troops and police personnel across the occupied territory ahead of Narendra Modi’s visit. Prime Minister Modi inaugurated Chenani-Nashri tunnel on Srinagar-Jam
mu highway.
A senior police officer confirmed that “an unprecedented ground-to-air security was put in place in Udhampur and around the tunnel.” The road leading to the tunnel was made out of bounds for the people, while no private vehicle was allowed to ply on the highway.
Surprise checking of vehicles was conducted by forces across the territory. Even women passengers were subjected to vigorous checking.
